You do not have to purchase the bar code scanner from us.  However the bar code scanner we sell is the only one that has been tested to work with Roll Call.  If you have a bar code scanner already it needs meet the following criteria to work:

1)  It needs to be a usb keyboard wedge device
2)  It needs to read code 39 bar code fonts
3)  It needs to be configurable to read one character
